Has social media infected you? Do people talk too much? See what Theognis has to say about it.
The doors of many a man’s lips do not meet, and many men are concerned with much that should not be spoken; for often that which is evil is better within, and that which is good was better before it came out.
Theognis, Elegies, 421
Here is what Euripides has to say:
Euripides, Orestes, Line 638
Good advice! Speak. There are times when silence would be better than speech, and the reverse also.
William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) –
The Remorse of Orestes (1862)
Then maybe speech sometimes is preferable? Maybe not.
